*Subtle Rhymes with Ruin Rife*
Djuna Barnes settings for Vox n Plux
will be scored for singing guitarists backing up soprano elizabeth Farnum on a huge battery of plucked strings including banjo, guitars, mandolin, and theorbo
This is the first major cycle of Barnes settings and is aimed at putting Barnes squarely on the map, as the 20th C. Emily Dickison of edgy extremity. It is also a prelude to my creation of an opera that uses Barnes' extraordinary mannerist (hence the theorbo) play, *The Antipon* as a libretto. *The Antiphon* was translated into Swedish by Dag Hammerskjold and produced in Sweden, shortly before Hammerskjold's tragic death in a plane crash.
